I could write a book on the problems with this. It was just 2 hours of constant chasing and fighting about who knows what and who cares. It's like they never watched the original trilogy and what was so special about it. No build up to anything. The best part of the latest episodes were in Force Awakens when we saw Rey by herself scavenging and being by herself. A great 10 min or so. The rest been horrible.
How many damn light saber fights did we need? geez.
The one reveal of Luke being Darth's son was enough and didn't need to be repeated in any other episodes. Now it's become one big incest family. It was totally unnecessary to have everyone be related. It took Luke 3 episodes to become a Jedi. It takes Rey 4 minutes.
It's like they got 40 different writers to write 5 min ideas and then just slapped them all together in one film.
Still no reason why Kylo wears a helmet. And never mind that Rey can stop a spaceship from flying with her hands, but doesn't use that same power during other times when needed. The badass Leia from the OG is totally gone. In the latest sequels she is all sad and dramatic. No humor or take charge anymore.
It just didn't feel like Star Wars. I lost interest after 15 min. Everything was just poorly set up and/or explained. It was even confusing at times. In New Hope there was a clear mission. Get the plans for the Death Star so it could be destroyed.
All the moments we were supposed to feel something all fell flat because of bad writing and direction.
So many unnecessary and ridiculous characters and the repartee was silly. And the dialogue was so not Star Wars. Say what you want about Lucas at least he created a new original world, characters and language, which has been lost ever since.
And then finally, I come to the dreaded forced inorganic and inauthentic diversity cast. I couldn't care less what color or gender you are, but if you cast people just to make it diverse I have a serious problem with it. No film should be cast on diversity math. If you ever find yourself saying, hey we need more women, or more blacks, or more asians etc" you have already failed as a writer.
